Selecting the All-Time Zips Basketball Team

Starting Lineup

Romeo Travis - Travis is seventh on the all-time scoring list, ninth all-time in rebounding, 10th in steals, and 2nd in blocks.  He was an honorable mention All-American by the AP in 2007 along with the MAC Player of the Year and has put together a solid professional career overseas.  Travis should have his #24 added to the school's honored jerseys that hang in the rafters at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Bill Turner - Turner is 5th all-time in scoring and 4th all-time in rebounds.  He led the Zips to three postseason appearances and was named an All-American for the 1966-1967 season.  He played eight seasons in the NBA for San Francisco, Cincinnati, Portland, and the Los Angeles Lakers.
Zeke Marshall - Marshall is the Zips' all-time leader in blocked shots and the 17th leading scorer in school history.  The Zips reached the MAC Championship game each of the four years Zeke manned the middle, winning two of them.  He has played for the Maine Red Claws and Grand Rapids Drive in the NBA's G-League.
Len Paul - When Akron was a Division II school, Paul led them to the Division II National Championship game in 1971-1972.  He led the team in scoring in each of his four seasons and finished 2nd all-time in scoring and 5th all-time in rebounding.
Joe Jakubick - Jakubick is the Zips' all-time leader scorer and led the nation in scoring in his senior year, averaging 30.1 points per game. Jakubick was named Conference Player of the Year twice and was an honorable mention All-American both years. He was drafted by Cleveland, but never played in the NBA.

Reserves

Jimmal Ball - Ball is Akron's 6th all-time leading scorer, 4th all-time in assists, and first all-time in Steals.  Ball played 14 years professionally overseas.

Eric McLaughlin - McLaughlin is ranks 3rd all-time in scoring, 2nd all-time in assists, and 4th all-time in steals.  He was named an All-American for his play during the 1988-1989 season.  During his four seasons, the Zips reached both the NIT and NCAA Tournament.

John Britton - Britton filled it up for Akron in the late 70's, finishing as their 4th all-time leader in scoring.

Don Williams - Williams finished his four seasons at Akron 8th all-time in scoring and 2nd all-time in rebounding.

Alex Adams - Adams is the 9th all-time leading scorer in Zips history (when he left UA, he was the all-time leading scorer).

Isaiah Johnson - "Big Dog" finished his UA career as 15th all-time in scoring, 11th in rebounding, and 3rd all-time in blocked shots.  He was MAC Player of the Year in his senior season.

Jeremiah Wood - Wood finished his career 28th all-time in scoring and 10th all-time in rebounding.

Dru Joyce - Joyce is Akron's all-time assist leader and is 38th all-time in scoring.

Coach - Keith Dambrot

Bob Huggins has had a more accomplished career, but nobody did more at Akron than Keith Dambrot.  Dambrot led the Zips to 12 straight 20+ win seasons and 3 MAC Champions/NCAA Tournament appearances.  During KD's tenure, the Zips had a total of 20 All-MAC honorees, 10 MAC All-Tournament selections, two tournament MVPs and one player of the year honor. Also during his watch, seven players were added to the school's 1,000-point scorer's list.
